Personalized Insole Application
The cause of a functional disorder in the foot can be found by measuring with functional tests or dynamic tests. Using a high-tech foot pressure scanning system such as the Footscan system and a video analysis system, solutions should be produced for the foot’s pressure distribution if there is a disorder by looking at how the foot steps in a functional or static state. Orthopedic insoles are anatomical insoles and are not specific to the person. However, each person has a different foot structure. Even the right and left feet may differ from each other. Therefore, the insole design should be made according to the person’s foot structure and functions, and then, according to the person’s weight, any discomfort, and the sport he or she does, the appropriate hardness insole material should be selected and personalized (orthopedic) insoles should be produced.
How are personalized insoles designed?
Gait analysis and foot analysis systems are computerized advanced technological systems with completely special software. The measurement data is evaluated by a special computer program prepared to evaluate foot functions completely, and personalized insole design is made accordingly by the same computer program. First of all, people are informed about how to choose shoes and what are the features of a good shoe. Then, personalized insoles are produced in line with the measurements. Personalized insoles are very important.
After the patients are evaluated by Prof. Dr. Meral Kozakçıoğlu at our Fizikom Physical Therapy Center, weak muscles are strengthened. After the mechanism of the sole support is corrected with special treatment methods, insole measurements and applications are made.
Diabetic Foot Care
Foot care of diabetic patients is a very important and meticulous issue. Due to the loss of sensation caused by circulatory disorders, patients experience thinning of the skin on their feet, coldness, paleness, and the inability to feel heat, cold, touch, and pain. For this reason, not feeling complaints such as pain, burning, and aching causes the problems in their feet to turn into unwanted situations such as foot ulcers, cuts, fungus, bacteria, wounds, and burns over time. At Fizikom, diabetic patients are cared for with special devices and moisturizers without using cutting scissors, forceps, and sharp-tipped burs.
Ingrown Nail Care
Ingrown toenails can occur due to various reasons such as genetic predisposition, incorrect cutting or pedicure procedures, incorrect shoe selection, trauma. It is usually seen on the big toe. The nail curls down on both sides or on one side and grows into the skin and becomes embedded in the skin. In such cases, an infection may occur around the nail. In our podiatry department, the Wire Method, which is preferred in many parts of the world for ingrown nail treatment, is applied by a foot care specialist.
Thickened (Gryphotic)/Fungal Nail Care
Nail fungus, known as onychomycosis, affects approximately half of the population up to the age of 70. Fungal infections occur when microscopic fungi enter the nail, then grow and spread in the warm, moist environment inside the patient’s socks and shoes. Symptoms of nail fungus, which can be caused by several types of fungi, include problems such as swelling, yellowing or thickening of the nail. The color of the toenails can vary between brown or yellow and white. With podiatric procedures, the nail fungus and the resulting thickening are completely cleaned and removed with podiatric devices and burs, and then the solutions, antifungal creams and antifungal drugs recommended for nail fungus infection provide a deep effect and provide a rapid recovery.
Orthosis Applications
Deformations that occur due to finger posture or pressure disorders are corrected by preparing special support material for the person’s foot. In this way, pain and sensitivity due to deformation are eliminated. The process is carefully monitored by the podiatrist with follow-ups.
Callus Care
The podiatrist first determines the cause of the callus and determines the intervention that needs to be done. Then, the keratinized hard layer is cleaned painlessly and without any pain with professional devices. It is not a correct procedure to clean the callus from the point where it is located at once. The most correct process is to clean it in a way that will not affect the person’s daily life without damaging the tissue at certain rates and to repeat and follow this periodically until the callus disappears.
